Avgoustinos is an innovative and energetic math and physics teacher who works with students across the secondary and university level range. He has hands-on experience as a lab scientist, which he brings to the classroom. He emphasizes skill development, inquiry, and confidence building over rote memorization and learning to the test.
Avgoustinos earned his bachelors in physics at the University of Crete and his masters in the the foundations of physics at the University of Cyprus. For the last ten years he has taught science and math at a range of international private schools and universities across Europe, including the American International School of Cyprus, the University of Central Lancashire, and Alexander College.
Avgoustinos has deep expertise in the Cambridge and IB curricula, and has served as an IB examiner in math and in physics. He has also served as an SAT proctor and the head of the math department at the American International School of Cyprus.
Avgoustinos also has a lot of experience teaching one-to-one as a math and science tutor in a variety of contexts. The one-to-one format plays to his strengths as an educator who values building a strong rapport with his students based around a shared love of inquiry and investigation. Drawing on this, Avgoustinos has served as a science education coordinator for European museums including the Kition Planetarium and Observatory.
Avgoustinos is currently earning his Ph.D. in science education at Frederick University.
