“I feel my students are my daily reminder of why I became a teacher in the first place.”
Priya is an international educator, pedagogical leader, and curriculum specialist with nearly two decades of experience teaching science across IB and Cambridge programs. She has taught in international schools throughout India, working with students in Biology, Chemistry, Coordinated Sciences, and Environmental Management, as well as Personal and Community Projects. Her approach combines academic rigor with thoughtful, student-centered teaching, helping learners build curiosity, think critically, and make meaningful connections between science and the world around them.
Priya earned her master’s degree in microbiology from Ahmednagar College, affiliated with the University of Pune, in 2004. She has since developed extensive expertise in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP), as well as Cambridge Checkpoint and IGCSE curricula. She currently serves as the MYP Coordinator and Science Facilitator at Symbiosis World School in Pune, where she supports the school’s IB authorization process, mentors teachers in IB pedagogies, and teaches science across MYP, IGCSE, and Checkpoint programs.
Throughout her career, Priya has taught at a number of leading international schools, including Mahindra International School, Avasara Academy, Stonehill International School, MIT’s Vishwashanti Gurukul, RIMS International School, and Indus International School. Alongside her classroom teaching, she has supported students through Personal Projects and Community Projects and has contributed to examination department logistics. Her experience across different curricula allows her to adapt her teaching to a student’s level, goals, and learning style while maintaining a strong focus on conceptual understanding.
Priya also works as a freelance pedagogical workshop leader, designing and facilitating professional development for educators on IB and Cambridge practices. Her areas of expertise include MYP assessment criteria, unit planning, Approaches to Learning skills, Visible Thinking routines, formative assessment, classroom management, and using AI to support Universal Design for Learning.
Her work extends beyond the classroom. As a long-term consultant for the Akanksha Foundation, Priya implemented scientific inquiry programs using Harvard Project Zero’s EcoXPT modules with students in local schools. She brings the same spirit of inquiry and exploration to her teaching, encouraging students to ask thoughtful questions, investigate ideas, and see science as something they can actively engage with rather than simply study.
In Priya’s words
I bring to the table 16 years of experience in the field of education in both IGCSE and IB schools. I have been extremely lucky to experience the different ideologies of both the curricula and often blend them in my teaching. I appreciate the structure that IGCSE offers as well as the opportunity to really experiment and the flexibility that the IB curriculum brings to the table. Researching new ways of assessing student understanding and collaborating with likeminded individuals to enhance teaching learning experiences is what I am passionate about.
Before having had the opportunity to teach EVM and Biology to Grade 10 IGCSE students I have taught Biology in the MYP and DP in earlier schools and thoroughly enjoyed the process too. However, I think now more than ever, it is imperative that students are made aware of the impacts of human activities on the environment. I am very passionate about the subject and ensure that my classes aren’t just about completing objectives but also creating a sense of responsibility towards our planet. I thoroughly enjoy teaching Middle school science because it lends itself to many opportunities to develop skills of scientific thinking and reasoning from an early age. I enjoy creating lessons for students that are a mostly student centric, filled with hands on activities, play, as well as gradually preparing them for the rigour of a board exam. I feel my students are my daily reminder of why I became a teacher in the first place.
