Bianca Mauro has spent her career helping students find confidence and joy in learning French. With a strong foundation in both psychology and language education, Bianca has taught Core French to students in grades 4 through 8 across public schools in Ontario, including gifted and general-stream programs. She believes that language learning is most powerful when it’s grounded in real-world experience—and that every student, no matter their background or ability, deserves to feel seen, supported, and challenged.
As a French teacher, I believe that language learning builds connection, confidence, and cultural understanding as well as widens opportunities for students in many aspects of their lives. As an educator, my goal is to go above and beyond the basics of teaching textbook vocabulary and grammar. Instead, I strive to build students' confidence to use French as a tool to express themselves, explore diverse cultures, build connections and see the world from new perspectives.
In my classroom space, I aim to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment where students feel safe taking risks, making mistakes and learning from one another. I see the classroom as a community, where everyone's voice matters. As an educator, I believe that I learn from my students just as much as they learn from me. In my FSL teaching, I am a firm believer in the action-oriented approach "L'approche actionnelle." This means students learn French through interactive, meaningful, and real-world tasks that encourage communication, collaboration and engagement with the French language in authentic ways.
Additionally, I believe that French language learning is possible for every student. I believe strongly in student success, and use differentiation, equity and inclusion as key components to my teaching practices. Learning may look different for every student, and as a teacher it is my responsibility to discover the tools that work best for my students. Every student in my classroom deserves to be seen, heard and celebrated. Finally, I also prioritize building a sense of community in the classroom and across the whole school community. I see a large benefit in collaboration with colleagues, creating cross-curricular opportunities for students to put their learning into practice. I am also a strong believer in having students work across grade levels (ex. Buddy programs) to build their leadership and create connections with their peers across the school. I strive to communicate clearly and regularly with students, families and colleagues to build a sense of togetherness, collaboration and community at school each day.
Overall, my goal as an educator is for students to feel confident to take risks, ask questions and grow in my classroom environment. I hope to foster a learning environment where everyone feels safe, seen and heard and where we learn from one another. My goal is to motivate students to continue with French in their futures wherever that may lead them.
