Casey Deane

Casey is a veteran educator with over three decades of experience, known for his interdisciplinary teaching, innovative curriculum design, and mentorship. With a deep foundation in both history and education, he brings a thoughtful, inquiry-driven approach to the classroom—and a passion for fostering critical thinking across subjects.

Casey earned his undergraduate degree from Rowan University, double majoring in history (with a focus on U.S. history) and elementary education. He graduated with honors and received a New Jersey teaching license in both elementary education and social studies. He went on to earn a Master’s in Education from Antioch New England Graduate School.

Over the past 30 years, Casey has worked in public education across grades 4 through 12. Recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Highly Qualified Teacher, he has served in multiple capacities—as a classroom teacher, learning support specialist, Curriculum Coordinator, and mentor teacher. His teaching portfolio spans a wide range of subjects, including U.S. history, Western Civilizations, World Cultures and Geography, Public Issues and World Affairs, Sociology (both collegiate and secondary levels), Comparative Politics, Mentoring and Leadership (Collegiate High School), and Diversity.

A specialist in project-based and inquiry-based learning, Casey is deeply committed to designing curricula that engage students through real-world questions and interdisciplinary exploration.

Outside the classroom, Casey is a certified 500-hour yoga instructor. He built his own home in Vermont, where he now lives, and spends his free time landscaping and constructing dry stone walls—a creative outlet that mirrors his thoughtful, hands-on approach to teaching.

Teaching Philosophy & Approach

My teaching philosophy is steeped in constructivist theory and inquiry-based education; my planning process is informed by “Understanding By Design”. I use these practices because they place students in the forefront, often through student choice, creating an environment where students' suppositions are challenged through critical thinking. Most importantly, I believe all people want to be successful, and my attitudes toward learners follow that belief. A teacher's role is to build a pathway that mines a student’s natural curiosity and scaffolds the way to success.

I believe all students deserve environments that provide for dignified interactions that honor individuality.

“A teacher’s role is to build a pathway that mines a student’s natural curiosity and scaffolds the way to success.”
