Michelle Cianfaglione

Michelle is a registered architect in New York State and co-founder of EXD Architecture.

EXD focuses on smart, integrated living systems that layer program with an emphasis on studying the 1:1 scale and ergonomics. Their ‘system for living’ as been published in the New York Times. Recently EXD Architecture was asked to lead a workshop with the AIA Center for Architecture in NYC to development the future of the outdoor dining program, post Covid, and will be building an outdoor restaurant shed with the city in 2023.

Michelle has had her own practice and has worked for award-winning architects in Philadelphia and New York City doing high-end residential and commercial work as well as international design competitions. She has been a professor for more than a decade, teaching classes in architecture and interior design drawing, digital representation, architectural history, furniture design, and design studio at the New York Institute of Technology and other Universities in and around NYC. Michelle has received a MArch from PennDesign (University of Pennsylvania) and a BPS in Architecture from the B/a+p (University at Buffalo).

Teaching Philosophy & Approach

I am extremely interested in how architecture is a way of seeing our environment. There's something powerful about drawing a building, a landscape, anything, that allows a student—any student, not just an art or architecture student—to see their world in a new way. I try to focus on this in my courses.
