Shannon is an experienced educator with a deep passion for health, wellness, surfing, skateboarding and permaculture.
Born and raised in the south east coastal city of Wollongong, Australia, Shannon has found profound inspiration from the ocean and the natural environment that he has been immersed in for most of his life—inspiration that he considers to be at the core of his personal and professional philosophies.
Shannon holds a bachelor of education degress, specializing in personal development, health and physical education. However, in his sixteen years as a full-time teacher, his experience also includes middle school science and math, high school guidance counseling, and student wellness
In 2017, Shannon was the recipient of a National Excellence in Teaching award in Australia for his work in building a living classroom; an outdoor education facility built on the principals of permaculture, with a focus on project-based learning in order to meet curriculum objectives via non-traditional means and providing more opportunities for differentiated learning strategies. This progressive approach led Shannon to being offered a position at the Green School in Bali, Indonesia in which he led and delivered health, wellbeing, outdoor education, sport and physical education programs.
Outside of the classroom you will find Shannon spending time with his children, surfing, or learning new tricks on his skateboard.
I believe that creating learning environments that are kind, fun, nurturing, and build upon the interests, existing skills, background knowledge, and individual needs of students are paramount to wellbeing and enriching learning experiences. Experiences that focus on the individual, resonate for years to come and guide students on their journey of self-actualization and purpose. As an educator, this is always of the highest priority when developing programs, lesson plans, and teaching strategies.
