Sofia Volpato

Sofia is a dedicated and accomplished educator with over 16 years of teaching experience in both public and private middle and high schools across Italy and France. Her career has been rooted in a deep passion for language education, with a specialization in teaching Italian and French to learners of all levels. Currently, she teaches in public high schools in Italy, where she continues to empower students through dynamic and engaging instruction in both languages.

In addition to her extensive experience in secondary education, Sofia has also taught at the university level, where she has contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate programs in language and literature. Her university teaching has allowed her to explore more advanced topics in linguistics, cultural studies, and literary analysis, and has further deepened her understanding of how to support learners in academic and professional contexts.

A key area of Sofia’s expertise lies in preparing students for the DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) examination. Over the years, she has successfully guided numerous students toward certification, thanks to her structured, student-focused approach and her comprehensive understanding of the exam’s expectations. Her lessons are known for blending rigor with encouragement, creating a supportive environment where students can thrive.

Sofia’s academic background is distinguished by three Master of Arts degrees: one in Teaching Italian as an Additional Language, one in French and Comparative Literature, and one in Italian Literature. This multidisciplinary education has provided her with a rich foundation in language pedagogy and literary studies, enabling her to design curriculum and instruction that are both intellectually rigorous and culturally enriching.

Beyond the classroom, Sofia has participated in a variety of educational initiatives and professional development programs focused on language acquisition, multilingual education, and intercultural communication. She actively engages in conferences and collaborative projects across Europe, reflecting her commitment to continuous growth and pedagogical excellence.

Sofia’s combination of experience, advanced academic training, and genuine passion for teaching positions her as a respected figure in the field of language education. Whether in secondary schools or university lecture halls, her work consistently fosters linguistic confidence, cultural appreciation, and academic success among her students.

Teaching Philosophy & Approach

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that language learning should be active, meaningful, and deeply connected to the real world. I strive to create an environment where students learn by doing—through authentic communication, real-life scenarios, and hands-on activities that allow them to use the language in practical, purposeful ways. Whether it’s through role-playing, debates, collaborative projects, or interactive media, I aim to make language come alive in the classroom and show students how it connects to their everyday lives and future goals.

I believe that students learn best when they are actively involved in their own learning process. I encourage them to take ownership of their progress, ask questions, explore their interests, and collaborate with others. My role is to guide and support them as they build their skills and confidence, helping them discover their strengths and overcome challenges. I also prioritize building strong, respectful relationships with my students—creating a classroom culture where they feel safe, valued, and motivated to take risks and grow.

To make learning relevant and engaging, I draw on a wide range of resources and adapt my teaching to reflect students’ interests, current events, and cultural contexts. I believe that when students see the relevance of what they are learning, they are more likely to connect with the material and retain it. Above all, I want my classroom to be a place where learning is not only effective but also joyful—where curiosity, creativity, and a sense of fun are always part of the process.

“My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that language learning should be active, meaningful, and deeply connected to the real world.”
