Souvik Nandy is a co-founder of the Asian School of Tea, a tea education institution with branches in India, Thailand, and New Zealand that, among other things, trains tea sommeliers. Deeply knowledgeable about tea, Souvik also runs a tea trading company that develops blends and products for tea companies worldwide.
Driven by a passion for tea culture, Souvik has established partnerships with small-scale tea farmers, offering them a platform to showcase their unique teas—an opportunity often hindered by financial constraints. This initiative not only uplifts farming communities but also introduces global audiences to lesser-known, high-quality teas.
Through the Asian School of Tea, Souvik promotes sustainable tea tourism, encouraging travelers to experience the authenticity of tea regions while supporting ethical practices. The programs of the Asian School of Tea seamlessly combine tea education with a commitment to environmental conservation and cultural preservation. By connecting traditional tea artisans with modern enthusiasts, he ensures the institution remains a bridge between heritage and innovation.
Souvik’s work continues to redefine the tea industry, fostering appreciation for tea as a medium of connection, culture, and sustainability. His leadership inspires tea lovers worldwide to explore the stories behind every cup.
I am deeply committed to the democratization of tea knowledge, ensuring that the rich and nuanced world of tea is accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or prior experience. I believe that tea, with its incredible diversity and history, should not be shrouded in exclusivity. Instead, it should be celebrated and shared openly, fostering a community of tea enthusiasts who appreciate its cultural and sensory depth. This philosophy underpins every tea-tasting session, masterclass, and workshop I conduct, where I invite students to explore, question, and truly engage with the art and science of tea.
I focus on imparting every bit of information — from the terroir and cultivation practices to brewing techniques and tasting notes — with clarity, enthusiasm, and a deep respect for the craft. I emphasize hands-on and immersive learning, designed to spark curiosity and ignite a lifelong love for tea in my students. I ensure that by the end of the session, students shouldn’t just leave with facts; they leave with a newfound appreciation and a sense of connection to the world of tea.
