Vergil, Caesar and Other Masterworks of Latin

Together we will embark on a journey into some of the greatest works of ancient Latin, including works by both Vergil and Caesar, which form the core of the AP Latin exam. Through close readings and in-depth analysis, we will unravel the complexities of Latin poetry, prose, and rhetoric, gaining insights into the literary techniques employed by ancient writers and these fundamental texts.

Understanding the Cultural and Historical Context

A key component of this course is exploring and understanding the cultural and historical context surrounding ancient texts. By examining the political, social, and philosophical ideologies prevalent during the time of their creation, we will develop a nuanced understanding of the influence of ancient Roman society on its literary works. Because this course is held one-to-one, our discussions will dive deeply into the aspirations, values, and struggles of the ancient world.
