Our personalized, one-to-one AP physics course offers a comprehensive exploration of the principles, concepts, and applications of physics geared toward the AP course requirements described by the College Board. This course can be done as a stand alone course or with preparation to take the AP exam in May. In terms of exams, there are four different options and curricula—physics 1 algebra-based, physics 2 algebra-based, physics C focused on electricity and magnetism, or physics C focused on mechanics. For students who want to prepare for the exam, we can shape this course according to one of those paths. And, for all students—whether exam directed or doing the course without the exam—we tailor the curriculum to your interests and learning style, ensuring a focused and effective learning experience.
Physics 1 Algebra-Based Path
This path is designed for students who are new to physics and want to build a strong foundation in the subject. You will explore fundamental topics in mechanics, such as kinematics, forces, and energy. Through interactive discussions and problem-solving exercises, you will develop a solid understanding of these principles and their applications in the real world. The course will focus on algebraic problem-solving techniques to reinforce your mathematical skills. Your teacher will guide you through hands-on laboratory investigations to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, enhancing your experimental and analytical abilities.
Physics 2 Algebra-Based Path
For students who have completed Physics 1 or have some prior exposure to physics, this path delves into more advanced topics. You will study fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, magnetism, optics, and modern physics. The course will emphasize algebraic problem-solving techniques and mathematical reasoning to comprehend the behavior of complex systems. Laboratory investigations will provide opportunities to explore these topics in real-world contexts and deepen your understanding of physical phenomena.
Physics C Electricity and Magnetism Path
This path is ideal for students with a strong interest in electricity and magnetism. You will explore advanced topics such as electric fields, circuits, magnetic fields, and electromagnetic induction. The course adopts calculus-based problem-solving techniques, allowing you to analyze and understand the underlying mathematical principles governing electrical and magnetic phenomena. Through hands-on laboratory investigations, you will gain practical experience in constructing circuits and observing magnetic interactions, further solidifying your grasp of these concepts.
Physics C Mechanics Path
If you find motion-related topics fascinating, the Physics C – Mechanics path is tailored for you. Building upon the foundation of classical mechanics, you will study topics like circular motion, work and energy, momentum, rotational motion, and oscillations in greater depth. This path also incorporates calculus-based problem-solving to explore more complex mechanics problems. Through hands-on laboratory investigations, you will experiment with forces, analyze motion, and explore mechanical systems to deepen your understanding of the physical world.
Mastering Fundamental Concepts
This AP physics course delves into the principles that govern the physical world. Together, you and your teacher will explore topics such as mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, forces, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism, and more. Through engaging discussions, interactive demonstrations, and problem-solving exercises, you will gain a deep understanding of these core concepts and their real-world applications. Since this course is taught one-to-one you will receive focused attention.
Developing Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
This course places a strong emphasis on solving scientific problems through mathematics, developing your analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities and working with scientific explanations and theories. You will learn to apply formulas to solve complex physics problems as you will work through a variety of challenging exercises and practice problems. We will also focus on breaking down complex problems into manageable steps in order to apply the appropriate physics principles.
Hands-On Laboratory Investigations
To solidify your understanding of physics concepts, we will incorporate laboratory investigations into the course using at-home lab kits. Under the guidance of your personal teacher, you will have the opportunity to conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions based on your findings. This practical approach will not only reinforce theoretical knowledge but also strengthen your scientific inquiry skills and ability to think critically about experimental design and data interpretation—two key components of the AP exam.
Exam Preparation and Test-Taking Strategies
For students who opt to prepare for the exam, in order to be properly prepared (and unstressed), we will incorporate exam prep through the course, exposing you to the format and expectations of the AP physics exam, and allowing you to familiarize yourself with the types of questions and the timing of the test. Mock exams, practice questions, and sample responses are provided to enhance exam readiness. In the final 3-4 weeks we’ll switch into 100% exam prep mode, including guidance on effective exam strategies, time management, and prioritizing key concepts. You and your teacher will also engage in targeted review sessions, reinforcing critical knowledge areas and addressing common misconceptions.
Personalized Learning Experience
With our one-on-one format, you will receive personalized attention and guidance tailored to your specific needs. Your teacher will adapt the curriculum and teaching methods to match your learning style and pace, providing additional support and clarification whenever necessary. This individualized approach will allow you to grasp complex physics concepts more effectively and maximize your learning outcomes.
