English 10

Our English 10 online course is a custom-built journey through literature and language arts, crafted to meet the individual needs and aspirations of each student and delivered either one-to-one or in a small-group pod. Although every iteration of this course is different, depending on the student, we generally derive the design from standards that you would find in a private school with an emphasis on world literature and analytical writing. This course might explore the vast landscapes of global literary perspectives, intertextual connections, and the nuanced craft of argumentative and persuasive writing. Each student’s course is personalized, taking into account their academic level, interests, and passions to ensure the most engaging and effective learning experience.

How Our English 10 Online Course Works

Meeting one-on-one with your own, private English language arts teacher, you will engage in hour-long, live sessions 1-2 times each week (the cadence is up to you). These collaborative, conversation-based sessions will include in-depth text analysis, detailed discussion, learning how to argue a point and take a view, and critical writing exercises. The iterative course design allows the syllabus to evolve with the student, ensuring that each lesson is as impactful as it is relevant.

Our Grade 10 English Course at a Glance

While our curriculum is flexible, it is grounded in the core concepts of a traditional English 10 course found in an elite private school. Whether focusing on the development of themes or crafting nuanced arguments, the course is paced to suit the learner. You might spend additional time honing your research skills or delving deeper into character analysis, or focusing where you need it most, with the ultimate goal of igniting your passion for great literature and honing your abilities to engage with challenging texts.

Great Books

Your teacher will curate a reading list to effect a balance between topics, genres, and writing styles that appeal to you and meaty, challenging books that are considered classics or are contemporary works chosen to resonate with diverse identities and viewpoints. Some examples from our recent grade 10 English language arts courses include:
  • The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
  • Othello by Shakespeare
  • Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
  • Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  • Poetry by Wallace Stevens, Langston Hughes, and Ocean Vuong

Critical Writing

Our English 10 online course places emphasis on critical writing skills. You will be encouraged to engage with complex themes and construct well-reasoned arguments, enhancing your ability to write with clarity and insight.

Structured Writing

This course will guide you on a journey from free writing to creating detailed outlines and structured essays. Through iterative revisions and feedback, you will learn the critical skill of how to plan out a strong piece of writing and express your ideas with precision and coherence, culminating in sophisticated written works that reflect your academic and creative growth.

Learning Objectives

Our core objective is for you to fall in love with great books and be equipped to analyze them, take a view, and then articulate that view in beautifully crafted prose. (We may also spend some time on creative writing or other forms of writing in order to build our writing muscle.) Your objective as a student may evolve to be some variation of this; and that’s what this course is all about: empowering you to trace your own learning journey through English language arts. At the conclusion of this course you will be ready for more advanced study in our English 11 course.

The focus of our English 10 online course is to foster a deep appreciation for literature from a global perspective, enhance critical thinking and analytical writing skills, and empower students to express complex ideas with confidence and clarity.

In this course, you will learn to analyze literature, develop intertextual connections, and craft persuasive arguments. You’ll explore thematic and character development, refine your research and writing skills, and engage in discussions with your own private teacher to deepen your understanding of texts and their cultural, historical, and societal contexts.

By integrating these standards and concepts, our English 10 online course not only aligns with the curricula of prestigious institutions but also promises a tailored, progressive, and intellectually stimulating experience for every student.
