Karen Light is an experienced art educator and executive function coach with a background in teaching, mentoring, and the creative arts. She has helped students, including those with ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder, achieve academic and personal goals by developing strategies to enhance skills like time management and self-regulation.
My teaching philosophy is centered on the belief that every student is capable of directing their own learning, with true education addressing the whole person. I view the student-teacher connection, especially in 1:1 environments, as paramount. I take the time to build a trusting relationship with each student, knowing that their confidence in me allows us to maximize our time together. I genuinely care about my students as individuals and see myself as a facilitator, offering tools and guidance to help them understand their unique learning styles, grow in emotional intelligence, and explore what excites them.
Creativity is a key element of my approach, enabling students to develop self-awareness. I also tailor learning strategies to their brains, interests, and goals. I emphasize learning by doing, crafting immersive experiences where students can explore and grow. I am particularly passionate about working with creative and neurodiverse students, helping them recognize their unique strengths and forge their own paths to self-defined success.
