Originally from Germany, Torsten is a versatile teacher with a rich background in journalism, filmmaking, philosophy, and history.
Torsten earned his bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy before starting a career in journalism. After a successful stint as a journalist, Torsten relocated to the UK and retrained as a teacher. For the past two decades, he has been deeply involved in working with children across various alternative educational settings in the UK, Austria, Spain, Portugal, and the Middle East.
Torsten is a devoted father to three worldschooling children, fostering a lifestyle of exploration and learning through travel. His dedication to slow travel allows him to immerse himself fully in diverse cultures, enriching his perspective as both a parent and an educator.
Torsten’s interests extend beyond his professional pursuits. He is an accomplished author, chef, and enthusiast of slow cooking. His insatiable curiosity and adventurous spirit drive him to constantly push boundaries and step outside his comfort zone.
My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where children and teenagers feel empowered to explore their ideas freely. I place a strong emphasis on critical thinking, encouraging students to embrace mistakes as valuable learning opportunities and to approach challenges with curiosity and creativity.
In my sessions with student, every individual is valued, respected, and given a voice, fostering an atmosphere conducive to deep learning and mutual growth. I believe that learning is a collaborative journey, where both teacher and student embark on an exploration of knowledge, constantly challenging themselves to adapt and evolve.
