AP Biology

Our personalized, one-to-one AP biology course offers a comprehensive exploration of the principles, concepts, and applications of biology, aligned with the course requirements outlined by the College Board for the AP biology exam. This course can be done as a stand alone course or with preparation to take the AP exam in May. For students who want to prepare for the exam, we can shape this course accordingly. And, for all students—whether exam directed or doing the course without the exam—we tailor the curriculum to your interests and learning style, ensuring a focused and effective learning experience.

Mastering Fundamental Concepts

In this AP Biology course, you will study the fundamentals that govern the living world. Together with your teacher, you will explore topics such as cell structure and function, genetics, evolution, ecology, physiology, and more. Through discussions, experiments, interactive demonstrations, and problem-solving exercises, you will gain a deep understanding of these core concepts and their interconnectedness. Since this course is taught one-to-one you will receive focused attention.

Developing Scientific Inquiry and Analytical Skills

A strong emphasis is placed on developing your scientific inquiry and analytical skills throughout this course. You will learn to think critically, analyze experimental data, and evaluate scientific evidence. Through hands-on activities, laboratory investigations, and data analysis exercises, you will develop a scientific mindset and strengthen your ability to design experiments, collect data, and draw conclusions. By exploring the scientific process, you will enhance your understanding of biology as a dynamic field of study.

Exploring the Diversity of Life

This course explores the diversity of life forms on Earth, from microorganisms to multicellular organisms. Along the way we will investigate the unity and diversity of life, studying the characteristics, adaptations, and evolutionary relationships of various organisms. Through virtual dissections, field observations, and case studies, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the complexity and interconnectedness of living organisms.

Understanding Biological Systems and Processes

This course delves into the intricate workings of biological systems and processes. You will explore topics such as cellular respiration, photosynthesis, molecular genetics, gene expression, and organismal physiology. By examining these processes at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of how living organisms function and adapt to their environments.

Exam Preparation and Test-Taking Strategies

For students who opt to prepare for the exam, in order to be properly prepared (and confident), we will incorporate exam prep through the course, exposing you to the format and expectations of the AP biology exam, and allowing you to familiarize yourself with the types of questions and the timing of the test. Mock exams, practice questions, and sample responses are provided to enhance exam readiness. In the final 3-4 weeks we’ll switch into 100% exam prep mode, including guidance on effective exam strategies, time management, and prioritizing key concepts. You and your teacher will also engage in targeted review sessions, reinforcing critical knowledge areas and addressing common misconceptions.

Personalized Learning Experience

With our one-on-one format, you will receive personalized attention and guidance tailored to your specific needs. Your teacher will adapt the curriculum and teaching methods to match your learning style and pace, providing additional support and clarification whenever necessary. This individualized approach will allow you to grasp complex biology concepts more effectively and maximize your learning outcomes.

Note: The specific topics covered in the AP Biology course may vary slightly depending on the updated curriculum set by the College Board. The course description provided above encompasses the general principles and approach of our AP Biology program.
