Claire is a versatile & enthusiastic teacher of A-level Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as General Science to IGCSE level and Middle School STEM, with a 2:1 honours degree in Environmental Science. She has worked in both public and private schools in the UK and France.
My main aim as a teacher is to make the learning experience fun and relevant. I employ a range of different teaching techniques and styles depending on the group of students that I am working with. Being a science specialist, I try to always make the topics being covered relevant to real life applications and experiences the students may encounter; as well as using as many practical, experimental and hands-on activities as possible.
I encourage students to be responsible for their own learning and progress and will use self and peer assessment regularly in lessons, as well as involving students in paired and group learning activities.
When working with students in exam classes, I regularly utilize a variety of revision strategies and review work covered through frequent low stakes assessment activities to introduce and encourage students to find revision techniques that work well for them from an early point. Having a number of years of exam marking experience allows me to guide students successfully when looking at how best to answer exam questions to enable the marking points to be met.
My open and encouraging approach with students of all ages and abilities has led me to develop good and trusting relationships with the students I work with so that they feel comfortable to participate in lessons without fear of getting answers wrong.
