Vincenzo Rosario Pitarresi

Vincenzo has a MA in Science and a PhD in Chemistry from university of Valencia and he did post doctoral research associate in Nankai University in China where his research involved chemical fixation of carbon dioxide into value-added chemicals that have broad applications in both organic (e.g. cyclic carbonates) and pharmaceutical fields (e.g. carboxylic acids) and silicon chemistry (siloxanes synthesis).
Vincenzo is IB DP and MYP Chemistry Teacher, and he is the head of the science department at an international school in Italy. Vincenzo has well-rounded skills in lesson planning, chemistry curriculum development and lab exercises.

A favorite quotation of Vincenzo’s from Benjamin Franklin is: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn”. Vincenzo believes his students are active learners during his lesson, encourages them to recognize and state problems, ask questions about these problems in a manner that allows them to find answers, and to recognize that these answers are both the final product and the starting point for their future study.

Teaching Philosophy & Approach

In my two years of teaching high school chemistry, my focus has been on connecting the wonders of science to my students with passion and relevance. I prioritize creating a student-centered environment, encouraging active participation, and fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. My goal is to provide the best learning experiences, helping students connect their academic knowledge with real-life situations. I continually adapt my teaching methods based on best practices, aiming to set a positive tone in the classroom.

I believe in the importance of creating a professional and positive environment where students feel heard and supported. Coaching students throughout the semester is a gratifying part of my teaching journey, as I genuinely care about their success and strive to inspire them to achieve their dreams with integrity.

Learning, in my opinion, should be fun and engaging. I encourage active participation, emphasizing that students must take responsibility for their learning, and I, as a teacher, remain open to being actively engaged. I welcome students who question and think critically about the material.

Beyond proficiency in chemistry, my aim is to inspire students to be lifelong learners, responsible global citizens, and individuals who pursue careers they deeply love. I want them to value compassion, respect, and positive change in the world. My teaching philosophy has evolved, shaped by experiences, feedback, and the supportive environment at H-International School's Science Department. I am grateful for the continuous learning and growth this profession offers me.

Beyond proficiency in chemistry, my aim is to inspire students to be lifelong learners, responsible global citizens, and individuals who pursue careers they deeply love.
