Andrés is a versatile science, math, and languages teacher with a wide, international background who builds strong relationships with his students and ignited their curiosity.
I believe that all students have the right to quality education where relationships and intercultural exposure are centered through genuine curious questions and deep listening. Strong relationships that exude mutual trust with teachers are primordial for students to progress in their learning confidently. I foster these bonds with students by leading with empathy: asking genuinely curious questions and listening attentively and deeply to my students’ desires and needs. In return, I encourage students to push past their perceived boundaries by setting high expectations, offering immediate feedback, and holding them accountable.
Intercultural exposure is highlighted in all of my classes since I know we learn best when we approach our interpersonal and intercultural differences as exciting opportunities for growth. I teach my students to analyse and question their internal biases when they meet someone they perceive as different to themselves, either because of their physical appearance, opinions, or linguistic expression. As such, learning how to ask excellent open-ended questions that start enlightening conversations is a focus in all of my language classes.
